Earlier this week our family spent the day distributing milk at the University of Rochester. The milk was donated by our milk cooperative, Dairy Farmers of America. The University of Rochester and Monroe County Cornell Cooperative Extension were the organizers of this event where a few thousand gallons of free milk made its way into the hands of struggling community members. In addition, milk was donated to U of R students who are currently unable to go back to their home country and numerous Rochester city food pantries that are overwhelmed with demand right now. A big thank you to all of our coop-member dairy farmers who helped make this possible.
The last eight weeks have provided dairy farms with an intense economic rollercoaster ride. We don’t know when prices will be stable. We don’t know how many farms won’t survive this crisis. But we will continue to donate because that is what farming is all about: helping people.
Limited quantities of chicken and duck eggs are now available at the Farm Stand.
